On June 15, a group of staff and partners braved the 107-degree heat index for a groundbreaking ceremony on the new ENT of Athens property, which will be located on the corner of Highway 441 and Lavista Rd. across from Presbyterian Village.
The clinic has been located at or near their current Nacoochee Avenue offices since 1972 when Drs. Sheffield and Dempsey opened the practice. Continual growth over the last 10 years has culminated in an opportunity to expand services closer to patients in Oconee County and the surrounding area.
In his public address, Dr. Charlese Mixson noted, “While we have always provided excellent care for Oconee County residents, we’re excited to finally be able to provide it on Oconee County soil.” Dr. Byron Norris then spoke of his appreciation for the support of the community, staff and numerous relationships with the medical community in Northeast Georgia.
Freese Johnson will serve as the general contractor. The Oconee County Chamber of Commerce, First American Bank and Trust and a range of other local partnerships will all provide support to the project.
The second clinic on Macon Highway is expected to be operational in early 2023 and provide ease of access for patients from Oconee and the surrounding counties. Drs. Mixson, Norris, Elizabeth Katz, Blake Kimbrell, and Christian Barnes are joined by two physician assistants and four audiologists to provide care in both locations for a range of ear, nose and throat disorders, allergy testing and treatment, hearing aids, balance testing and a range of facial plastics.
